Family Session Guide

Welcome!

We are so glad you are here! As you may know we (Karen & Lisa) are mothers, photographers, and twin sisters who love photographing families. Our personalities are quite similar: we are both laid back, go-with-the-flow type people who spend the majority of our day with a camera in our hand while chasing after our children. If you ran into Karen at the grocery store there is a very good possibility she would have her camera with her. We are obsessed with photographing our families, but for a good reason. Years from now, we want to be able to look back and remember those fleeting moments that would otherwise be forgotten. Not just for ourselves but for our children.

We have the same hopes for you. Those beautiful, messy, chaotic, sweet moments that you and your family share. We want to take those photos for you. So years from now, you are brought back to that moment, that stamp of time in your life.

Where & When?

Your family session can take place in your home or an outdoor location. Think of your family’s happy place, is it splashing at the beach, hiking near the woods, or exploring nature in a meadow. Or, maybe your happy place is in the comfort of your own home, couch cuddles followed by playing games in the backyard.

If you need help deciding we have a list of beautiful locations we would be happy to suggest!

Outdoor sessions should take place as close as possible to sunset or sunrise. The light is pure magic during this time. In home sessions can take place anytime during the day. Usually when the rooms you want to be photographed in have the most natural light.

What to Wear?

This is such a popular question! Dress as yourself! You want your pictures to reflect your own personal style. Dress comfortably, if you are comfortable it will show in your photos. Wear a t-shirt and jeans, or a long dress that flows beautifully in the wind. The choice is yours! When picking clothes for your family, pick colours that co-ordinate, layers look great! We’ll chat more about what to wear before your session.

What to expect?

The day for your session is finally here! Our goal is to capture the connection between you and your family as candidly as possible. Your kids can run around and be their amazing selves. Laughter, tickles, and cuddles are encouraged! Toss your children in the air, give them a big bear hug, or sit on a blanket and watch the sunset together. Don't worry about looking at the camera. We will direct the session but will keep the posing to a minimum. Understandably, trying to get your kids dressed and ready for a shoot can feel a bit stressful - we understand. The best way to approach the session is to think about it as a play date. Let your kids know you are going out to have fun. The more upbeat you are the better!

In Home Sessions

What is it all about?

It's about the beauty in the everyday. It's about the comfort and love that comes from inside your home.

As I type this in my home office. Okay confession, it was once my home office. I’m pretty sure my kids have now claimed it as their own. Someone has scribbled on my desk and there are more toys in here than office supplies. But I can’t help but think, one day it will just be me in here, all the toys will be given away, the scribbles will be wiped off my desk and my children will have much more “important” places to be. This is why I want to document every single moment. This time is fleeting. Learning my children’s newest dance moves or watching my youngest imitate everything her older sister does. I wish I would be able to remember all of our daily moments, but the truth is I won't.

It's not about perfectly clean homes it is about capturing the connections and spontaneous moments between you and your family. It is your stamp in time, in the comfort of your home.

Our time together

Your kids can play, you can put on your favourite record, and we will wait for the dance party to begin. Pick an activity you love to do as a family, bake cookies, read a book, make a craft. Our job is to capture your family just how you are. If your children laugh, I will probably join them, and if they have an off-moment thats okay too! Did I mention I'm here to capture the real moments? Because when you look back those real moments are the ones you will cherish the most.

After your session.

Your photoshoot is done, that was fun! Now what? We will send a sneak peek 48 hours or sooner after your session is complete. Four weeks or sooner you will receive an email with a link to your online gallery. If you selected Package 1 you will have one week to select your final 25 photos. With package 2 enjoy all the photos that come with your gallery.
